Cyberbullying and cyberstalking are unique crimes within themselves. It differentiates from any other crime in that it does not require physical strength or an in-person meeting to induce fear. It is important to fight for laws reforming online platforms and improving accountability. The destructive and cruel actions of those who engage in this behavior are amplified by their anonymity.
According to the New York Times, "TikTok users have been forming cults...and armies...for months now, borrowing tactics from comment raid groups on other platforms." (SOURCE). In another source, to the extreme of what Lillee Jean has been victimized to, "in a destructive cult...the leader often uses psychological tricks to gain complete control over [their] followers' behaviors and actions. Often, cult leaders use verbal and physical abuse, or sexual coercion, to gain extraordinary levels of control." (SOURCE)
Below is a real-world example, of what Lillee Jean has faced. When she was just a teenager, a member of an online digital cult created a binder on LJ. To stalk. To torment. To locate each detail of her daily life, and, to document each living moment. Such behavior violates digital civil rights to privacy and serenity. That is called stalking, and, such behavior is on the rise.
